If you want to fly over 10,00AMSL legally, you need to have a HGFA Oxygen endorsement, and use an Oxygen system. So if you want to claim any distance record and your flight altitude exceeds 10,000', then unless you have an O2 endorsement, your flight will be disallowed.

But it's not just for flights over 10,000'. Medical research shows a definite increase in cognitive ability above 5,000' AMSL for pilots using O2 compared to pilots without.
